Destinations to explore
Morocco can be visited all year round but not everywhere or for the same reasons. Medina of Fez, Merzouga desert, Atlantic coast: the season changes everything depending on the itinerary.

The short answer: March-April and October-November. But Morocco is a country of microclimates, and the "best time" depends entirely on what you come looking for. The Merzouga desert in February under 30°C during the day and 0°C at night, it's different from Marrakech in April under a mild sun.
March and April are the best weeks to visit Morocco in its entirety. Pleasant temperatures everywhere (20-28°C), the Atlas Mountains still snow-capped in the background of the kasbahs, the gardens of Marrakech in bloom, the green countryside around Fez.
Marrakech in March: 22°C during the day, cool evenings. The Djemaa el-Fna is livable without being overwhelming. The queues at museums and monuments are less than in April.
The desert in March: cold nights (5 to 10°C), sunny and windy days. The dunes of Merzouga at this time are often clearly drawn by the wind — clear photos. No shade in the desert at lunchtime: plan a nap in a tent.
April is the peak period. Flights and hotels are more expensive, the sites more crowded. If you have the choice, prefer March for calm, the end of April for the heat.
The start of the new school year in Morocco is going smoothly. After a difficult summer, temperatures are dropping to comfortable levels. October in particular is excellent:
November is calm and bright, with temperatures that remain mild until mid-November. It is the ideal window to go into the desert without suffering from the heat or intense night cold.
The Moroccan summer is heavy. Marrakech in July: 42 to 48°C in the shade. Fez: similar. The Merzouga desert exceeds 55°C on the sand. It is physically difficult, even for those used to the heat.
The exception: the Atlantic coast. Essaouira benefits from a constant wind (the trade winds) that keeps temperatures between 18 and 24°C even in July. The city is known worldwide for windsurfing and kitesurfing in summer. Agadir remains pleasant (25-28°C, beach). But these destinations in summer are crowded with Moroccan tourists on domestic vacations.

If you can only go in summer : focus the tour on the coast (Essaouira, Agadir, Taghazout) and Chefchaouen in the north, which enjoys a cooler mountain microclimate. Avoid the desert and inland medinas between 11am and 4pm.
Winter in Morocco is cold at night but bright during the day. Marrakech in January: 18°C in the afternoon, 5°C at night. Far fewer tourists than in spring. Riads heat badly — check before booking if heating is included.
The desert in winter is spectacular and accessible. The days are mild (25-30°C), the nights freezing (0 to -5°C sometimes). Sleeping under the stars with a good sleeping bag, the absolute silence of the Sahara, the pink dunes at dawn: this is often the most powerful experience of the trip.
The Atlas in winter: ski resorts exist (Oukaimeden, 2,600m, 1 hour from Marrakech). Nestled in the mountains, the Atlas in winter attracts few visitors — a nugget for mountain lovers.
Ramadan: the date varies every year. During Ramadan, restaurants and cafes close during the day, the atmosphere is special but authentic. Some travelers love it — others find it logistically difficult. An organized tour handles this constraint effortlessly.

March-April and October-November are the high fare seasons. Paris-Marrakech flights (3h15) vary between €80 and €300 depending on the time of booking. The quality riads in the medina have a 30 to 50% increase in high season.
Practical rule: book 3-4 months in advance for the March-April periods. Organized tours block accommodations well in advance — that's one of the perks of going there.
